Friends of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic e.V.
The Association of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic
The Friends of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic has set itself the task of sustainably supporting the diverse work of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic and the German Wind Academy.
The Association has been promoting the orchestra's profile and networking since 1992, enriching the educational offerings of the German Wind Academy, e.g. as part of the extremely popular student concerts and organizes the CD sales of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic.
In addition, the Friends of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic installed their own concert series for the Saxon Wind Philharmonic in the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Since 2001 the association has been presenting its orchestra regularly with top-class concerts in the “Arena of Composers”, which has been very well received by the public. On the occasion of its 60th anniversary on October 17, 2010, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic delighted here with the chamber opera "Katharina von Bora" specially composed for the ensemble, which has since been performed in various historical original locations. Another highlight of this series of concerts was the highly acclaimed German premiere of Tolga Kashif's “The Queen Symphony”. Not only that a prominent patron, Sebastian Krumbiegel, was responsible for the benefit concert - afterwards, the "Friends of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra" could provide forum thomanum e.V. with the considerable proceeds of this concert for its educational work.
The annual family concert in Arthur-Brettschneider-Park also became an institution in Leipzig's music scene and quickly became very popular. There the "big ones" can enjoy the music of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic in a relaxed atmosphere, while the "little ones" have access to the playground of the GeyserHaus.
