B-course: conducting of wind orchestras (academy phase 2)

Conducting wind orchestras and training young wind players

The part-time course extends over a period of 15 months. This time is divided into six academy phases and five intermediate practical phases. The academic and practical phases form a whole, the parts of which are systematically related to one another. The contents imparted in the academy phases are tested in the practical phases and supplemented and deepened by written work and practical exercises. Therefore no academy phases can be skipped. Continuous participation is a prerequisite for participation and for completing the course.

Each academy phase comprises approximately 36 lessons. Depending on previous knowledge, the time required to master the theoretical and practical tasks requires around 600 working hours in the practical phases.
At the end of the first week of the course (orientation phase), both the participants and the Federal Academy can decide whether to continue with the course.

Entry requirements
1. Music studies at a training institute for music professions or C3 qualification according to the federal system of training and further education of the Federal Association of German Music Associations and the Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education Trossingen (or comparable qualification from other countries)
2. Direction of a wind orchestra at the latest when the course begins
3. Experience as a wind or drummer in the wind orchestra

Course goal
The course imparts the B-qualification according to the nationwide system of training and further education of the Federal Association of German Music Associations and the Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education Trossingen. The aim of the course is to expand and perfect the skills to conduct a wind orchestra and to train young wind players.

Target group
Conductors with a C3 degree from the brass band, instrument teachers at music schools and in the free trade, orchestral musicians at work and music students

The course is aimed at conductors who already conduct a wind orchestra.

Graduation
The part-time course ends with an examination in which evidence of practical skills and a theoretical overview of the subjects offered must be provided. The requirements and the course of the examination are laid down in the examination regulations of the Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education Trossingen.
